WHY NOW?

WONDERLAND_TUNNEL_backdrop.png

In Wonderland examines the impact immigration policy has on children, who being children, simply haven't established enough truths about the world to understand the stakes or consequences of their treacherous journeys to the United States.

Like Alice, undocumented immigrant children enter a new world that glistens with color and opportunity. Yet, most come to experience a confusing and complicated place, especially when starting their journey towards citizenship.

As a character-driven story, told through a child's perspective, we aim to reflect on a broader social issue by forging a strong contrast between Nina's fantasies and the harsh realities that surround her. In Wonderland is an effort at giving children, like Nina, a story, a fantasy, a world familiar to them, and, although heartbreaking; a film that can inspire hope by reminding them of the magic that still exists within them and the pursuit of life.
